The exam

Which regulations the exam tests

The CBLE is open book, so the exam is really a search problem: 80 questions, about three minutes each, somewhere in 19 CFR and the tariff schedule. Below is the map — every authority CBP's published answer keys cite, with the number of questions it has answered across 17 sittings.

Tabs beat memory

Four authorities — 19 CFR 111, 19 CFR 141, 19 CFR 152, ACE — answer 365 of the 1,261 questions on record, 29% of everything CBP has asked. If your copy of the regulations opens straight to them, you have bought back minutes you would otherwise spend searching, and minutes are what the pass rate is made of.
